May Newsletter
As we enter the home stretch, everyone here at the Donahue School is amazed how quickly this year has flown. With that being said, we head into perhaps the busiest time of the school year.
From May 6ththrough May 9th, the fifth grade students will be taking their NJASK standardized test. The following week, May 13th through May 16th, the 3rd and 4th grade students will be tested with an additional day for fourth grade on Friday, May 17th to take the science portion of the test. The standardized tests are an opportunity to assess the learning that has occurred all year and we have as a school and district always done well. We are confident this year will be the same.
The PTA will also be very busy this month. The PTA will be honoring our teachers and support staff who work so hard all year long by hosting Teacher Appreciation Week from April 29-May3rd. The annual Mother’s Day plant sale will be held on May 2ndand 3rdand the monthly bake sale dates are scheduled for May 7thand the 21st.
Our fifth graders have some exciting events ahead as they prepare to go to the Brackman School next year. On May 21st, the 5thgraders will visit their new school to take a tour. They will also celebrate their years at the Donahue School on May 31stwith a trip to Bounce –U followed by a picnic back at our school.
We will wrap up the month with our annual field day event on May 28th. This event is always so much fun and the students, teachers, and parents welcome the chance to be outdoors as they anticipate the joys of summer vacation.
We have so much to look forward to as we enter the last weeks of school. Please do everything possible to keep your children focused and enthusiastic about school as the warm weather hits.

Teachers, staff, cafeteria workers and administration (housed at the Donahue School ) united together to make a difference for district coworkers affected by Superstorm Sandy. Thanks to very caring and generous people a collection of gifts cards was made that totaled $1000. The gift cards were divided and distributed to staff that most needed it due to their loss during the storm.
A big shout out to each and every one of you! When we give… it is returned to us many times over.

Thank you to all of the guest readers that came and read to our K-2 classes!
The second grade students and staff celebrated Read Across America by dressing as their favorite storybook characters! A great time was had by all!
We raised $2,315.00 dollars for the American Heart Association with our Jump Rope for Heart Event on Feb 21, 2013. The most money ever raised for the American Heart Association by Joseph T. Donahue Elementary. The kids should all be really proud of themselves. Liam and Sean O'Neil from Mrs. Green's class raised $865.00 dollars alone. A special thanks to both of them.
