                                                            February, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Winter is finally here; I hope that everyone in the Barnegat community is well and on behalf of the Brackman family we thank you for your patience and understanding dealing with the snow from winter storm Jonas.

It’s not too early to start thinking about Spring Sports.  Sports Physical paperwork is due to the main office by February 12th so don’t wait and get it in now.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Cavell in the main office.  Additionally, order your yearbook now! Next week on February 1st the price goes up to $45.00.  No postdated checks will be accepted on that date.  Order forms are available in the main office.

The winter pep rally was a huge success with our new school climate club, “Bull Dog City”; thank you for all the reindeer games pitting students vs. staff and the introduction of the “Spirit Stick”!  The seventh grade earned the bragging rights for now to the Spirit Stick and we are looking forward to what Bull Dog City has in store for our spring pep rally, so sixth and eighth grade students the challenge will be back on to see if who will close the year out with the coveted Spirit Stick.

This winter our sports teams continued to bring home some more titles; the Brackman Boys Basketball team followed in our football team’s footsteps completing their season undefeated with a 14-0 record.  We are so proud of hard this team worked and grown together; it was a particularly special season as this was Coach Smith’s final season.  Thank you Mr. Smith for teaching our students how to be student athletes; you epitomize all that it means to be a coach and we are proud of you!  We would also like to recognize the outstanding accolades that our wrestling program has achieved over the past decade under the direction of Coach Rizzo.  Mr. Rizzo recently just celebrated his 100th win last week and captured the teams 9th conference title in ten years, a decade of excellence that is quite a feat in a one of the most competitive counties for wrestling.  Congratulations Coach Rizzo, Coach Pandolfo, and Mr. Burke who stepped down this year but has been with the team for its previous 8 titles.

Outside of athletics there are some great things happening as well!  Several students came up with the idea to create a club that devotes time/effort into spreading positivity and optimism throughout the school. Coming soon this February is the Optimist Club.  Everything so far has been student-run. They created a mission statement and a flyer to advertise for the club. In addition, they have already brainstormed future activities and are looking to hold the first meeting next week.

Please note that school will be closed on February 15th in observance of President’s Day and on February 16th for teacher professional development.

Other activities taking place in February are:
