Dear Students, Parents, and Members of the Barnegat Community,

Greetings from the beautiful Barnegat Township Public Schools! Please take a moment to get familiar with our website. Take advantage and peruse postings by teachers and Administrators, review building news, after school activity information, and exciting programs that involve the school and community.

In Barnegat we recognize and welcome the diversity and individuality of our students and provide a learning environment that supports the needs of differentiated learners. In addition to following the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, our classrooms provide respectful learning environments with high expectations and positive interactions between staff and students.

Mark Van Doren states, “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” There is nothing more exciting than working with children each day in assisting with this process. In Barnegat we take great pride in allowing students to reach their learning potential by utilizing current teaching practices, integrating technology into daily lesson planning, and supporting teachers who truly care about students' progress, well-being, and development.

I hope all of your experiences with the Barnegat Schools are positive, memorable ones. Visit our website often for updates and changes. Remember….

“All children are bearers of promise” ~ Ellie Wiesel….

…..and we're grateful to teach yours.

Karen M. Wood

Superintendent Wood has served the Barnegat School District for seven years. Under her leadership new programs have been implemented.  To her credit, two self funding programs (the Bengal Cubs Early Learning Center and the Before and After Care Program) provide invaluable services to our students.  The Before and After Care program services several hundred children's before and after care needs.  The Bengal Cubs Early Learning Center services our very youngest Bengals and the numbers have grown each year.

At Barnegat High School, students who meet predetermined criteria are invited to participate in a unique learning experience called the "Med-Sci Collaborative". This opportunity extends visits for a select cohort of students to Barnabas Health, Community Medical Center in Toms River. There, the students participate in hands-on, experiential learning activities with hospital professionals.  Many of our students in this program have gone on to study medicine, nursing, or other health related fields.

Through the partnership with Barnabas Health, Community Medical Center, Superintendent Wood has secured a $500,000 grant realized through a full time prevention specialist assigned to one of our elementary schools in the district over a five year period. This opportunity allows students and families to understand the complexities surrounding addiction and the necessity of prevention.

This year the Barnegat Schools created a semi-departmentalized grade five program to allow students and teachers to delve into standards at the fifth grade level.  This granular delivery of the standards will provide additional foundations for students before beginning sixth grade and also allow them to have authentic learning experiences.
